Your Message on a Butyric Acid Bottle

This is absolutely beautiful. Sea Shepherd is affording their supporters an opportunity to have their personal messages printed on the bottles of butyric acid they’ll be throwing at Japanese whalers this winter.

Sure, many bottles crash on the sides of ships. And even if they do land on deck they likely won’t be read. But it’s an awesome idea all the same. What’s more, if you believe in the power of words, having powerful messages printed on these bottles is enough, even if they aren’t read by the whalers.

Operation Divine Wind Needs Funding

As Japan gears up to spend $27 million on security for their whaling season—even after announcing they would call it quits—Sea Shepherd’s Operation Divine Wind is working hard to raise funds to ensure they can counter the efforts of Japanese whalers.

Help Post Bond for the Steve Irwin

For those of you who don’t know, the Steve Irwin was locked down and detained by British authorities last week shortly before they were to leave port in Lerwick. The reason for the detainment was because a Maltese fishing company by the name of Fish & Fish filed a civil lawsuit against Sea Shepherd, citing they damaged their property.

The property in question is a fishing net used to capture Bluefin Tuna in the Mediterranean Sea last year. Sea Shepherd believes the nets were being illegally (after the close of season with no inspector on board) used to capture the Bluefins and consequently the fish were freed.

Sea Shepherd must post a bond of $1.4 million to release the Steve Irwin. Without this money they risk having the vessel held indefinitely and—according to Sea Shepherd—possibly sold.

So right now they’re pushing hard to raise these funds. If you ever wanted to donate to Sea Shepherd, now would be the time.

The Steve Irwin Needs $192,000 to Refuel

The Steve Irwin had to disengage and head north to New Zealand to refuel. According to Paul Watson it costs about $192,000 for the 240 tons of marine diesel it needs to fill its tank.

They are seeking donations to help offset the cost of this. So if you feel inclined, I invite you to donate a few dollars towards some Japanese-whaler ass kicking.

I just donated $100. My hope is that they will actually receive $192,100 in donations, and my $100 will purchase some more pseudo corpse. A guy can dream, can’t he?
